The skulls with ceramic headpieces and crowns are reminiscent of royal family portraits or the stuffed animal heads that hang like trophies on the walls of stately homes. But these are skulls, the bare bones that remind us that underneath our uniforms and guises, beyond our triumphs and failures we are, in the end, all the same. The elaborate headpieces give them grandeur and identity, but also accentuate how these frivolous additions can make a mockery of both life and death.
I offer them as single pieces or as series (or family portraits as I like to call them).
The deer are from an ecological and free range maintained stock in the Dutch forests.
